The appreciative audience who attended Professor Mackay’s presentation ‘Our Cultural Heritage and Global Hope’ in the BCMA Theatre on Monday evening, were treated to a night of wonderful insight, knowledge and wisdom, that reflected his real sense of passion and connection with the cultural heritage of the countries mentioned, highlighting the profound level of identity and solace many cultural locations provide for people around the world.
During his talk, he outlined some of the devastating impact of the Military conflict in Syria and Yemen on cultural icons, while also highlighting the impact of natural disasters such as earthquakes in various locations around the world. He also alluded to the power of cultural identity and its importance to so many, for varied reasons, in locations all across the globe. His reflection on the importance of indigenous reconciliation and the need to acknowledge and understand the heritage of the First Nation People of our land provided a fitting conclusion to the evening, as did his heartfelt comments about the importance of developing initiatives such as Darkinjung Barker to build relationships understand the power of cultural interaction as we progress relationships with communities the world around.
