On Monday in Week 4 of Term 1 over 100 parents and gathered at our first Barker Institute event of the year. The evening was to highlight the role of the Middle School in the development of students in year 7-9 and to introduce to parents a variety of key staff leading the school.
After presentations from Mr Phillip Heath (Head of Barker College), Mr James Denton (Head of Middle School), Mr Greg Longney (Director of Learning and Enrichment), Mrs Rowena Dudgeon (Director of Wellbeing), and Mr Andy Mifsud (Digital Learning Leader), the three Deans of the Middle School and the Senior Chaplain joined them on stage for an expert panel answering questions from the floor.
Questions centred around the use of technology, organisation and development of Middle School students, and how parents are to support students by balancing their direct involvement with their child’s increasing independence. The image on this page is a word cloud generated from a question asked by Mr Phillip Heath where parents were to provide words to capture their hopes for their children upon leaving year 12 at Barker. All staff emphasised that we share these aspirations and that it is a privilege that we are able to seek to develop these traits amongst the students during their time in the Middle School.
